Privacy Policy — بن أحمد للتعليم · مدارس (the school application)

This policy covers one application: بن أحمد للتعليم · مدارس, shown as مدارس on a tablet and as Benahmed School on Windows, package education.benahmed.school. It is the complete account of what that application collects. It does not cover our website or our other applications, which each have their own policy:

The application is used by school staff — directors, administrators, supervisors and teachers — and not by students or parents. It runs on a school computer and on a tablet carried around the school.

What the application collects about you

• Your Google account’s email address and display name, because staff sign in with Google. We never see your Google password.
• The school you belong to and the role in it that your director has given you — director, deputy, secretary, supervisor or teacher. Your director sets this, not you and not us.
• An identifier for the installation, generated at random the first time the application runs, so that a record can say which device it was written on. It is not your device’s serial number, an advertising identifier, or anything the operating system gave us; it identifies an installation and nothing else.

What it keeps on the device

The application holds a copy of the school records you are allowed to see in a database file on the device itself, in the folder the operating system gives the application. It does this so that a supervisor can walk a corridor with no signal, and a teacher can enter marks at home, without waiting for the internet.

That copy is limited to what the server would have shown you anyway. The limit is applied by our database rather than by the application, so it is not something a modified copy of the app could talk its way past: a teacher’s device receives only the pupils of the classes he teaches, and receives no guardian details, no correspondence with parents, and no absence letters at all. A director’s device receives the school’s records because a director may see them.

Alongside it the device keeps a short list of housekeeping: which school is open, who is signed in, when it last reached the internet, and any rows still waiting to be sent. If your access to a school is withdrawn, the application deletes that school’s copy from the device the next time it learns of it, and tells you it has. We should be plain about the limit of that: it removes the records from the application, and it is not a guarantee about a device that is already in someone else’s hands.

What it sends, and to whom

The application talks to two services and nothing else: Supabase, which hosts the database on our behalf, and Google, to sign you in. There is no analytics in it, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party software development kit of any kind. It measures nothing about how you use it.

The school’s own records

Everything else the application handles is the school’s own record: its pupils, its classes, its registers, its marks, its correspondence with parents. The school gathers that information and decides what it contains; we hold it on the school’s behalf so that its staff can do their work.

Two parts of it are about staff rather than pupils and are worth naming separately. A register records which member of staff walked it and which teacher signed, and where a teacher signs by drawing, the application keeps that signature as the shape of the line drawn. A mark records who entered it and when. Both exist because a register and a mark sheet are official records that have to say who is responsible for them, and both belong to the school.

What the application does not collect

It does not request your location, your contacts, your files, your microphone or your camera. It does not take or store photographs. It contains no advertising, and nothing in it is sold, shared or used to build a profile of you.

Deleting your staff account

A member of staff who deletes their own account — from الحساب in the application — has their personal details erased, loses their place in every school they belonged to, and can never sign in again. The application also deletes every school’s copy from the device the account was deleted on. The rows the school’s register points at — who walked a register, who entered a grade — remain, no longer naming you, because they are the school’s record and it is required to keep them. If you want the school to remove what you entered, that is a request to make to the school. If you have no access to the application any more, you can do the same deletion yourself at benahmed.education/school/delete-account by signing in there with the same Google account.

A teacher working in a personal workspace of their own, with no subscribing school behind it, is in a different position: there is no school whose record it is, so deleting the account deletes the workspace and every class, pupil and mark in it.

Children

The school application is for school staff. It is not for students or parents and is not directed at children. The pupils’ records it handles are the school’s, as described above.

CCPA privacy rights (Do Not Sell My Personal Information)

Under the CCPA, among other rights, California consumers have the right to:

Request that a business that collects a consumer’s personal data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data that a business has collected about consumers.

Request that a business delete any personal data about the consumer that a business has collected.

Request that a business that sells a consumer’s personal data, not sell the consumer’s personal data.

GDPR data protection rights

We would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.

The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request that we complete the information you believe is incomplete.

The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to data portability – You have the right to request that we transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
