Privacy Policy — بن أحمد للتعليم · أولياء (the parent application)

This policy covers one Android application: بن أحمد للتعليم · أولياء, shown as أولياء on the phone, package education.benahmed.parent. It is the complete account of what that application collects. It does not cover our website or our other applications, which each have their own policy:

The application lets a parent or guardian follow one school’s record of their own child. It cannot be used without an account, and it cannot be used until a school has issued you a code for a named child and that school’s director has approved you. There is no way to ask for access to a child from inside the application, by design.

What the application collects from you

• Your Google account’s email address and display name, received from Google when you sign in. We ask Google for nothing else — not your contacts, your calendar, your files, or your photos.
• The code your child’s school gave you, and the link it creates between your account and that one child. The school issues the code and the school’s director approves the link; we do not create it and you cannot create it yourself.
• The reasons you write when justifying an absence, which are sent to your child’s school for its staff to accept or reject. What you write goes to the school, and it is the school’s record from that moment.
• A notification address for your phone, if you allow notifications. It is issued by Google, it identifies the handset rather than you, and its only use is to deliver the notifications described below. It is given up when you sign out and erased when you delete your account.

What it shows you, and who that belongs to

The attendance, marks and messages you see in the application are your child’s school record. The school gathers them — a teacher marks a register, an administrator records a decision — and the school decides what they contain and how long they are kept. We hold them on the school’s behalf so that the school can show them to you. They are not information we collected about you or about your child, and we do not use them for anything other than showing them to the people the school has authorised.

You are shown one number that is not about your child: how many sessions their class missed on average. It is a single average over the class, calculated on the server, so no information about any other child ever reaches your phone. You cannot see, and the application cannot request, anything about another family’s child.

Notifications

The application exists to tell you the same day, so notifications are the main thing it does. You are asked for permission once, after your school has approved your access and your child appears — not on first launch. If you decline, the application does not ask again, and everything in it still works; you simply have to open it to see what changed. You can turn notifications off at any time in your phone’s settings.

A notification names your child and what happened — for example an absence, the subject and the period. To deliver it we hand that message to Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging, which is the only way to reach a phone whose screen is off and whose applications are closed. Google passes it to your handset. We do not send notifications for advertising, and we do not send them to anyone but the guardians a school has approved for that child.

Notifications are marked so that Android conceals their content on a locked screen: on a phone with a PIN, pattern or fingerprint, someone holding it sees that the application has something to say but not what it says. On a phone with no lock, the text is visible to whoever picks it up, which is worth knowing before you leave your phone on a table.

What the application does not collect

It does not request your location, your contacts, your photos, your files, your microphone or your camera. It contains no advertising and has no access to the Android advertising identifier — that permission is explicitly removed at build time. It contains no payment feature. It measures nothing about how you use it. The notification address above is the only identifier it holds, it is not used to recognise you anywhere else, and it is not shared with anyone beyond what delivering a notification requires. We do not sell any of this.

Who processes it

Google does two things here. It handles sign-in. It also carries every notification: Firebase Cloud Messaging is Google’s, and the message it delivers names your child and what happened, so Google transports that text on the way to your handset. There is no way to reach a closed application on Android without it. Supabase hosts the database on our behalf. Your child’s school is the other party: it decides who may see a child’s record, and it can end your access at any time.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the application at any time: open الإعدادات — reachable from every screen once you have signed in, including before a school has approved you — then under حذف الحساب choose حذف الحساب and confirm. You do not need to contact us and you do not need to explain why. If you have already uninstalled the application, you can do the same deletion yourself at benahmed.education/parent/delete-account by signing in there with the same Google account.

Deleting your account erases your email address, your name and your phone’s notification address, and ends your access to your child’s record: the link between your account and that child is revoked, the notifications stop, and the account can never be signed into again. This cannot be undone. It does not delete anything belonging to your child — their attendance and marks are the school’s record, and are neither yours nor ours to remove.

The justifications you sent the school are kept by the school. They are its record of a decision it made — a letter it accepted or rejected — and it needs to be able to answer later who told it a child was absent. Your name is erased from your account in the ordinary way, so what remains is the letter and the decision on it, no longer naming you. If you want the school to remove what you sent it, that is a request to make to the school.

Children

The parent application is for parents and guardians aged 18 and over, and is not directed at children. It shows a child’s school record only to the guardians that child’s school has approved; a child cannot use it to see anything.

CCPA privacy rights (Do Not Sell My Personal Information)

Under the CCPA, among other rights, California consumers have the right to:

Request that a business that collects a consumer’s personal data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data that a business has collected about consumers.

Request that a business delete any personal data about the consumer that a business has collected.

Request that a business that sells a consumer’s personal data, not sell the consumer’s personal data.

GDPR data protection rights

We would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.

The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request that we complete the information you believe is incomplete.

The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.

The right to data portability – You have the right to request that we transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
